Uneven increasing partnership activity at U.S. institutions Nearly half of responding institutions reported they have begun to develop international partnerships or have expanded the number of partner relationships in the last three years. BUT, nearly a quarter reported they do not currently have any international partnerships. About 44 percent of associate-degree institutions reported they do not currently have any international partnerships. Need for coordination, strategy Emerging role of partnership director - dedicated exclusively to creating, sustaining, tracking, and evaluating partnerships with international institutions In November 2014, ACE began convening this group to learn more about the specific responsibilities and challenges of the role, and to provide a venue for them to share lessons with one another.

Need for coherent strategies and policies 40% of responding institutions have articulated a formal strategy for international partnerships or are currently developing one. 30% percent of institutions employ a staff member whose primary responsibility is developing international partnerships. 32% percent have specific campus-wide guidelines for developing/approving new partnerships and/or assessing existing ones.

Geographic Priorities for U.S. Partnership Activity While there is a high level of current partnership activity with Europe, only 3 percent of institutions reported an interest in expanding their collaborative activities in the region BUT nearly half have not identified any specific countries for expanded partnership activity.
