Section 3 With food surpluses, not everyone needed to farm, other people became artisans. These artisans began to craft tools, baskets, pottery and cloth. All of these items helped this farming settlement grow into a city. Read Growth of Cities on pg. 22

Traders and Cities Traders took valuable items such as spices, pottery and tools and traded with far away cities. These traders spread new ideas and customs. Some cities became rich from trade and developed into some of the first civilizations.

Social Classes Place the following in order from bottom to top. Artisans, Nobles, King, Priests, Common Workers and Farmers. KPNAC

Time Line Info. What is the definition of Circa? Around or about. Example: Circa 1800s. B.C. stands for time Before Christ A.D. Stands for Annio Domini which means in the Year of Our Lord. This is the time of Jesus’ birth and begins the time A.D.

Customs and Values Custom- the ways of living that people practice over time. Culture- the way of life of a group of people, including their daily habits, beliefs and arts. Values- things people believe are the most important in life and are usually based on religious beliefs.
