Ideas-Unlimited Reflections Adrian Allen Steve Lona Nicholas Tracy

Successes Produced the desired quantity of 50 acrylic clocks Achieved acceptable level of quality

Failures Scraped six products during production Broke six 1/32 inch end mills Reworked 5 parts as a result Lost 2 products during finishing operations

Results Using scrapped material was cheaper, but produced greater variability from piece to piece Acrylic was easily susceptible to scratches Spent twice as long manufacturing than what we expected Over on budgeted machine and labor hours

Conclusion Moved toward a more Industrial Engineering type of environment Improved process plans Setup reduction techniques Assembly Line Cross-functional team

Improvements Find a more consistent and scratch resistant material Use a vacuum fixture to end mill around entire work piece Better cut-off operations
