Bellwork Hands on Equations Introduction… Today: Beginning Unit 5 – Equations

Stations Teacher -- Tech -- MP --

Tech 1. Watch the following Learnzillion Video & fill out PINK sheet… Learnzillion Video: http://learnzillion.com/lessons/165-understand- equations-using-balance-scales 2. If you finish early, use the link below to practice: https://www.khanacademy.org/math/cc-sixth-grade-math/cc-6th- expressions-and-variables/cc-6th-solving- equations/e/one_step_equation_intuition

MP Task 1 Complete the following hands on equations problems on the back of your PINK paper…just like we did in bellwork! Find the value of the pawn (x) & check your answers.

MP Task 2 Use the hands on equations to translate these verbal expressions into an equation. Then, find “the number”… Three times a number, increased by 1, is 25. Find the number. If 3 is added to twice a number, the result is 17. Find the number. 3 more than six times a number is 15. Find the number. When a number is increased by 8, the result is 13. Find the number.
