Why do we consider mechanisms as being a reasonable description of the manner in which chemical reactions occur? Collision Theory Zero order reactants explained

Rate = k [ ] k temp Rule of Thumb… An increase of 10°C increases the rate by 100-300 %! parameters affecting k will also affect rate ..but even at room temp. and press., in a mixture of two gases, the number of collisions between the particles is large already ~ 1031 collisions per liter per second!!! Rate = k [ ] In equation due to collision theory! k Particles moving faster = more collisions temp (they must be effective collisions) (…must break bonds!)

The rate constant for the formation of hydrogen iodide from it’s elements H2(g) + I2(g) → 2HI(g) is 2.70 x10-4 mol s at 600.K and 3.50 x 10-3 mol s at 650. K. Find the activation energy for this process. Ea=166 kJ/mol
