Methods of Representation

Methods of Representing Gesture drawing Contour drawing (responsive line drawing) Perspective drawing Hatching / Shading Collage Sculpture Models

Gesture Drawing A Gesture drawing is work of art defined by rapid execution. Typical situations involve an artist drawing a series of poses taken by a model in a short amount of time, often a little as 30 seconds, or as long as 2 minutes. Volunteer models make various poses Capture the gesture of the way the model’s form is positioned and energy is directed Focus on time with model rather than being fixated on perfection of drawing

Contour Drawing also known as continuous-line drawing, is an artistic technique used in the field of art in which the artist sketches the contour of a subject by drawing continuous lines that result in a drawing that is contorted and or abstracted Observe the curves of the body Students carefully plan strokes and complete them in a controlled gesture Pen never leaves the page and the eyes rarely leave the model

Perspective Drawing Drawings of one and two point perspective Can be of an object Can be both internal or external environments

Hatching / Shading Used to describe form and / or light in an object

Hatching / Shading Shading uses pencil, charcoal and/or markers

Collage Using a lot of various objects to represent an image or representation

Sculpture Use new or found material to replicate a form of a real object Can include clay, ice, garbage, wire etc.

Models Use new or found materials to create a prototype of an object
