Discussion Questions Chapters 4-6 ***Each answer should be 2-3 sentences. Use specific text references when you can!*** What holds Maurice and Roger back from hurting any of the littluns? Explain whether or not Jack is right that the pigs see him rather than smell him. Why does the mask compel Sam and Eric to follow Jack? Why does the author have a ship come by and have the fire be out as opposed to no ship or the ship just not seeing the smoke? How did you feel when the boys reenacted the killing of the pig? Explain. Evaluate Ralph as a leader during the assembly in Chapter 5. Ralph says things are “breaking up.” Why do you think that is? What emotions underlie Ralph’s, Simon’s, and Piggy’s desire to have grownups around? Why does the author have the dead pilot parachute onto the island? Why are the boys thrilled with Castle Rock?
