Notice and Note: Memory Moments Maniac Magee

Mix Pair Share Describe a memory from your childhood that still sticks out in your head today. Why is this memory important to you?

RALLY ROBIN Let’s rally robin reasons why an author might interrupt (STOP) the action in a story or movie to have a character remember something from the past.

Memory Moments Tell us more about a character and things that happened to them in the past that readers would not know about otherwise.

Finding A MEMORY MOMENT (flashback) Let’s watch this clip from Ratatouille and identify a memory moment.

When you NOTICE a Memory Moment….. You must dkfjslkdjfl and ask yourself: WHY might this memory important?

WHEN YOU NOTICE AND NOTE A MEMORY MOMENT….. YOU ARE MAKING PREDICTIONS ABOUT CHARACTERS AND THEMES….

WHY might this memory be important? All Record Round Robin After viewing the Snack Attack Movie Again ask yourself: WHY might this memory be important? What can you predict might happen next? What do you learn about the characters? How does this memory moment teach us something about people (theme)?

Clues in stories that a character is having a memory moment... I remember the time that…. The memory came flooding back to me……. This picture always reminds me of the time when…. My dad likes to tell the story of the time when… I still remember that day like it was yesterday…. He told the story of the day when…. ??????????????? Could be Double bubble memory moments in movies, memory moments in books/literature

Memory Moments In Maniac Magee…. Let’s revisit chapter 25 and NOTICE the memory moments. On a post it, record the words that begin the memory moment and those that end it.
