Presentation transcript:

A systematic approach is needed in evaluating the mouth of elderly patients. All patients should receive a complete oral exam annually and more often if signs and symptoms are present. Module 7 provides video instruction on how to perform an oral exam. The reference below gives and example of an Oral health Assessment designed for patients in Nursing Care facilities. It includes a scoring system that might be helpful in tracking at risk patients. Information and training on the use of this screening tool is available at http://www.healthcare.uiowa.edu/igec/e-learn_lic/dentistry/default.asp.
