Martin MATH 6A – PER 2 & 6 SCIENCE/HEALTH – PER 3 &4 PIRATE COLLEGE ACADEMY Period 1 STANDARD 6SDAP1.1-3 Students will understand how the inclusion or exclusion of outliers affects measures of central tendency. 6SDAP1.1 Compute range, mean, median, and mode of data sets. Health Expectations 1 to 8. Students will examine the nutrition requirements of teens, explain the Food Guide Pyramid, examine eating disorders, know the importance of physical activity, and make personal fitness plan. 2NS4.1 Students will know that when all fractional parts are included, such as four-fourths, the result is equal to the whole to one. 3NS3.1 Compare Fractions represented by drawings. LEARNING OBJECTIVE Display and analyze data in a stem-and-leaf plot. Students will be able to examine how nutrition and physical activity promotes good health in teens. I want you to tell me what a fraction is and how to recognize, name, and compare unit fractions with a picture diagram or drawing. AGENDA Introduce Chapter 8-3 Steam and Leaf Plot and Chapter 8-4 Bar Graphs and Histograms Brain Pop on Graphs Lecture on Tuesday Introduce Chapter 5: Nutritional and Physical Activity. Check foldable, page 115. Show Brain Pop on Health Video for Chapter 5. Get out a sheet of paper and make Cornell Notes titled “Equivalent Fractions”. You will see a Brain Pop on Comparing Fractions DO NOW ACTIVITY Do the warm up problems on the blackboard. Get your Cornell notes out or your foldable and take notes on Monday. Get out your Cornell notes and foldable and be prepared to take notes for the lecture. Make sure you have your foldable ready to take notes. Take out a sheet of paper and write your heading on the paper and title it “Representing Fractions.” HOMEWORK Start Reading Chapter 8-3 and 8-4. Do problems 1-35 on page 412 to 414. Do problems 1-15 on page 418 to 419. Start reading Chapter 5: Nutrition and Physical Health from page 114 to 141. Do questions in Lesson 1 to 5 and the foldable on page 115. Do Work book from page 28 to 35. Do Lesson all of Chapter 2 from pages 32 to 83. We will cover one lesson per day this week. TEST Test will be Mid Chapter Quiz on page 423. Your test will be on Chapter 5: Nutritional and Physical Activity. Your Test will be Chapter 2 test on page 82 and 83 EXTRA CREDIT Make the foldable on page 394. Label on side with lesson 8-3 and 8-4 and use it to place your notes on it. Keep this foldable in your folder and add more lessons when get to them later on in the school year Perform a play of three people using the Persona Dolls on a topic concerning Social Health that you seen from a video or researched out of your Health text book, or real life situation. Make a fraction diagram that shows Equivalent Fractions. Color and label it and show it to the class for extra credit.
