NEW Addition to our Retention and Success Initiative The College of Engineering and Computer Science and the College of Optics and Photonics have adopted a new policy beginning with students admitting to UCF in the 2015-2016 catalog year. The Progress Policy is designed to encourage successful completion of a degree at UCF. The policy has 3 components: Low grades, withdrawals, and multiple attempts.

Low Grade Component Students with (7) C-, D, F, W, NC, U grades at UCF will be placed in a probationary lack of progress status with the college. Students will meet with a CECS/COP advisor. Students with (10) C-,D, F, W, NC, U grades at UCF will meet with an academic advisor for career planning and selection of a major outside of CECS/COP.

Withdrawal Component Students with (3) ‘W’ grades will be placed in a probation progress status with the college. Students will meet with a CECS/COP advisor. Students with (5) ‘W’ grades will meet with an academic advisor for career planning and selection of a major outside of CECS/COP.

Repeat Course Component Student with two unsuccessful attempts of the same UCF course will be placed in a probationary lack of progress status with the college. Students will meet with a CECS/COP advisor. Students with three unsuccessful attempts of the same UCF course will meet with an academic advisor for career planning and selection of a major outside of CECS/COP.

Conclusion CECS and COP believe that the adoption of this new policy will positively affect the following: Time to degree completion Excess hours Indebtedness Future employability Congestion in key UCF courses
