Work on Words Words Their Way Vocabulary in Context Developmentally appropriate and research based spelling and vocabulary programs Spelling patterns will be integrated into our Daily 5 lessons. We will follow the 3rd grade Language standards to cover all patterns. Vocabulary built into daily instruction Word work done daily at school

Writing Workshop Students will learn to develop their voice within their writing through a variety of genres (narrative, opinion, informational). Students will study authors’ craft by studying what authors do that works to create their writing. Students will develop paper and multimedia writing pieces.

Math Grade Level Overview – 3rd Operations and Algebraic Thinking Represent and solve problems involving multiplication and division. Understand properties of multiplication and the relationship between multiplication and division. Multiply and divide within 100. Solve problems involving the four operations, and identify and explain patterns in arithmetic.   Number & Operations in Base Ten Use place value understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit arithmetic. Number and Operations—Fractions Develop understanding of fractions as numbers. Measurement and Data Solve problems involving measurement and estimation of intervals of time, liquid volumes, and masses of objects. Represent and interpret data. Geometric measurement: understand concepts of area and relate area to multiplication and to addition. Geometric measurement: recognize perimeter as an attribute of plane figures and distinguish between linear and area measures. Geometry Reason with shapes and their attributes.

3rd Grade Testing CogAT- All third graders participate Quarterly Benchmark Tests (county created) EOG- Third grade is the first year of participation. Reading, Math (calculator active), Math (calculator inactive)

Expectations and Behavior PRIDE Try your best! Come to school each day prepared to learn Class paw rewards PRIDE Paws for trait of the month Negative behavior dealt with individually

Homework Policy Read every day – at least 20 minutes Math homework every night Limited- 30 minutes Necessary and essential
