Pope Francis FAITH AWARD Co-ordinators meeting

Faith Award Prayer Lord Jesus, You ask those who believe in You to give your Good News to others. We pray that, with the help of the Holy Spirit, our words, actions and prayers will help other people to hear of You, to believe in you and to find the joy of knowing You. Amen

MEETING OUTLINE Introduction Resources What does the school need to do? What do the pupils do? Discussion 1 How can parents help? What about the Parishes? Who else in School can support you? Discussion 2 What’s next?

= showing signs of love FAITH AWARD “How beautiful it would be if each of you, every evening, could say, ‘Today, at school, at home, at work, guided by God, I showed a sign of love towards one of my friends, my parents, an older person.” Pope Francis addressing young people April 2013

Introduction In honour of Pope Francis Purpose of FAITH AWARD promotes active Faith participation Gifts and Fruits of Holy Spirit Success criteria

Success Criteria What have I done? What evidence do I have? I have used all the Gifts of the Holy Spirit when showing my love of God and my love of others in my daily life. I have recorded my actions in my Faith Journal. With the support of others, I have reflected on how my actions have made an impact on my journey of faith. I have included some reflections in my Faith Journal and my P7 Personal Profile. PARISH COMMENDATION I am playing my part in the life of the parish. My parish priest has commended my contribution to the parish.

What are Schools expected to do? Enrol pupils for the Faith Award Communicate with Home and Parish Use Gathering Points Provide opportunities for School activities Monitor School activities Monitor use of Faith Journals Assess, using agreed process & criteria Attend verification meetings Let SCES know who has gained the award

Pupils How are pupils expected to participate? respond to Gathering Points note their actions & reflections in Faith Journal commit to actions at home ALL PUPILS in school in parish Some Pupils

Move to Local Verification Why? Award is very successful – over 5,000 pupils registered in this phase Can take account of local context, holidays, etc. More efficient for school management in release of staff, etc. Cuts down on travel time Allows teachers some ownership of the Award

Local Verification Each cluster to nominate 1 PFFA Verifier For pilot year, the nominee will hold the post for 1 year After that, clusters can decide how to allocate role Good staff development opportunity

Role of Verifier Attend SCES Verification Training Meeting Jan/Feb Arrange and co-ordinate verification events for their cluster March Return necessary documentation to SCES by end of March
