Our Band The band we found to work with is called Renegade. Renegade are a band based in Kent, who describe their genre as indie and alternative rock. They formed in 2015, and chose the name ‘Renegade’ because it has multiple meanings, and they wanted it to be open; the listener was able to pick which definition they wanted, and choose how they wanted to describe the band. Its also a name of the song of many artists the band collectively enjoy. Ideas Development https://emilymynheermediaproduction.wordpress.com/2016/02/02/comparing-interviews/ Here we compared two interviews, where we could gain more knowledge in interview techniques.

Treatment Our video is going to be an informative video in an interview form. At the beginning, the band will introduce themselves. Rather than in some interviews, where the interviewer is shown on screen speaking to the interviewee, we will not be using this and will focus on multiple shots of the band. Along with shots of them being interviewed and answering the open questions we set, we will also include some shots of them talking a bit about themselves, their music, the band in general, their influences, and so on. The video will be quite informal, so it makes the viewer feel comfortable when watching. It also means the band will be more relaxed, answering questions in a way they feel suits them best rather than having to appear formal and very serious. The image for the band that we would like to create, is an alternative, indie type of image. Treatment At the beginning, the band will introduce themselves, and start to tell the viewer a bit about the band; how they started, each members name and role within the band, and other similar questions. The focus towards the middle of the video will be the music and their EP. They will play some of the music they have created, including footage of them playing and their rehearsal, maybe some shots of them practising live. The end of the video will include a question about the future of the band; will any new music be produced, where you see the band in five years, questions to do with the upcoming future for them. The very end will simply be the band promoting themselves, telling the viewer their social media and where to find them.

Production Schedule What we are doing Where When Pre-Production Canterbury College 4/1/16 – 22/2/16 Pitch 24/2/16 Production Renegade rehearsal space 28/2/16 Editing Starting 29/2/16

Recce Research For our recce research, we have made sure that we are recording our shots within the bands rehearsal space so that we are able to have a relevant background in the shots (most likely, their instruments), and will be able to get some shots of them playing live. As we will be inside, there will not be any problems to do with weather. However, as we are using natural lighting, we will have to go somewhere where there is good, bright lighting that is clear. We will be recording during the day to ensure this. In terms of sound, we will be using the microphone on the camera we are taking, but also an external microphone in case we feel the audio is not as clear as we would like.

Synopsis Our video and radio podcast will be focused on the band and their influences in music. We will have asked them about who and what inspires them to create their music, as well as how they met and formed the band. We will also see them practicing in their own rehearsal space, and talk through their musical ideas.

Health and Safety – Risk Assessment Hazard Who is at risk Prevention Risk Assessment Equipment and instruments breaking Crew & Band Being careful with equipment, unloading and packing it away properly Moderate Tripping on cables Making sure all wires and cables are clearly marked out or taped down Weather damaging equipment Crew Checking in advance that if we need shots outside, it won’t be anything that could break and damage equipment Low

Interactive Elements We will be producing a promotional video for our band, which will feature video, audio and interviews. It is important for a band to have some recognizable traits such as an image so we aim to create an image for our band through our promotional video. I feel this video would benefit our band as it will be a form of advertisement that they can post on different social Medias such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram. Etc. We are aware that our band use social media so the promotional video would be a good addition to the bands Facebook page and YouTube.

Interactive Platforms The platforms that our band currently use are YouTube and Facebook. The target audience for their band is teenagers, and between them YouTube and Facebook are two of the most popular social media sights right now. It also means they can share their page with specific people via Facebook, and announce events easily. YouTube is a steady platform to use for broadcasting and uploading videos as it is quick, and videos can easily be shared and presented to other people through other social media sights. Other bands also use sights such as Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr. Instagram is used for sharing images and short videos, which many artists used to post clips of songs or concert videos. Twitter is more personal and allows followers to see what the band may be doing on that specific day. Tumblr is mainly blog posts and is used a lot less than Twitter and Facebook.

Contingence Plan We have tried to make sure we can find a day when we and the band are all available. If a member of the band is unavailable when we plan to shoot, we could potentially shoot without them. If it would cause a bigger issue to do this, we would simply have to reschedule for a different day. This, however, could be difficult as we all have to plan around school/college/work etc. It is unlikely that any of our equipment would break, but it is more likely that we could run out of battery life or memory space on the camera and microphones. To avoid this, we would make sure all the batteries are charged and the memory cards are empty. If anything else was to happen, we would make sure that we had extra batteries and memory cards for the equipment to be sure that everything is in full working order for the duration of the shoot. We are aiming to shoot everything indoors in a studio style space, so the weather will not be an issue. However, if the location becomes unavailable, we will have to try to film elsewhere. If this happened, it is likely that we would film outdoors rather than indoors, because outdoor space is more readily available.
