FRAPCON/FRAPTRAN activity at VTT FRAPCON users group meeting V. Tulkki, A. Arffman VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland

Code use at VTT Past activity Current and near-future projects

Recent Projects Simulation of past Halden LOCA tests in cooperation with Quantum Technology (Sweden) [1] VTT uses FRAPTRAN-GENFLO for reference calculation and TH boundary conditions for QT’s modified FRAPTRAN calculations Ongoing for IFA-650.5-> Simulation of Halden VVER LOCA test IFA-650.11 Rupture location and time well replicated, however Difficulty to replicate temperature evolution after the rupture (similar effect in some other LOCA tests too) [1] Tero Manngård, Ali Massih, Jan-Olof Stengård, Evaluation of the Halden IFA-650 loss-of-coolant accident experiments 2, 3 and 4, http://dspace.mah.se/handle/2043/13443

Recent Projects Statistical full-core LOCA evaluation Presented in TopFue l2011 [2] Upgrading of FRAPTRAN-GENFLO TH coupling for boundary conditions allowing for total channel emptying and downwards flow LOCA conditions in large reactors quite harsh FRAPCON used in SCANAIR initialization [3] Initialization module by IRSN Interpretation of gap during RIA [2] 2011 Water Reactor Fuel Performance Meeting, paper T3-028 [3] A. Arffman, A. Moal, Georgentum, V, Evaluation and Adaptation of the RIA code SCANAIR for modelling BWR fuel and conditions, TopFuel 2012

Current situation and future issues Tradition of keeping our own modified version Major modifications presented in users group meeting adjanced to Topfuel 2010 Our person responsible for FRAPTRAN and FRAPCON maintenance is about to retire Knowledge transfer ongoing LOCA damaged rod estimation for EPR still a current issue <10% rods damaged in LBLOCA Participation in OECD uncertainty analysis in best estimate modelling (UAM) workshop with both FRAPCON and ENIGMA codes Enhancing our capability for uncertainty estimations
