Slaves were fed once a day and if they refused were force fed Conditions were terrible along this trip leading to a breeding ground for disease Many sick slaves were thrown overboard to prevent epidemics Approx. 3 million slaves died along the middle passage. Many tried to drown themselves before boarding. Slaves were lined up along the lower portion of the boat and chained together
