Learning outside the classroom. What is learning outside the classroom? “The world beyond the classroom can stimulate, motivate and bring learning to life.” (Department for Education and Skills, (2006 Manifesto) “Regular outside activity allows bodies and senses learning opportunities whilst confirming real world experiences.”( Peter Bensten of University of Copenhagen, 2012) “Every child should be entitled to outdoor learning.” (Thomas and Thompson (2006))

Does anyone know what different types of technology are there that you can use outside the classroom?

Different types of technology outside the classroom. Mobile phones Digital cameras GPs tracker QR codes Television's Play station Xbox Digital video camera. (Timmothy, 2016)

Different technology's Digital camera. GPs tracker A digital camera is piece of technology which allows you to take images that can either been seen on a computer screen or can be printed out GPS is shortened for Global Positioning System. This is used for a accurate positioning of a individual or vehicle.

Different technology's QR codes Mobile phones QR codes are codes that are often covering up a URL code, they typically look like black and white squares, this is often used on mobile phones or any kind of technology that will read the codes. A mobile phone is a devise that has many characteristics such as, using the internet, phoning and messaging people, using different social media applications.

How can we apply these technology's to outside a classroom? Digital camera GPs tracker 1. In art to take images of the outside world, to then go and create inside the classroom. 2. Used to observe children in different activities, the children can use digital cameras to record what they are doing. 3. part of English, to set the scene of a story or piece of writing 1. In PE to carry out a treasure hunt. 2. Geography, this is linking to map skills and using different tools other than a paper map.

Technology with subjects Mobile phones QR codes Can be applied to any subject needed Can be applied to any subject needed Both provide quick access to information

Advantages of using different technology outside the classroom Using Phones GPS TRACKER Phones are easy to access and are a quick information gathering source. It encourages independent learning and there are many opportunities in how you can use phones Phones make information easy to gather and note down GPS are useful for field trips Help to teach about maps and routes how to get from A to B Navigation skills Gives life skills such as: when driving a car using a sat nav Applies to both Knowing just how to use them will help with life skills in future (Gerstein, 2013)

Advantages of using different technology outside the classroom Qr cODE Digital camera Easy to use Accessible over phones Can be applied to every day life, a lot of companies and websites use QR codes so in knowing how to use them it can help bring knowledge QR codes are free of use and therefore anyone is able to create them Can be applied to anything/ helps to access certain information quickly and instantly Images can be easily seen after taking the photograph or deleted Instant recording of what is going on can be used in any of pupils work to support their ideas if needed Can be looked back on and reinforce the memory of what happened (Estate QR Codes, n.d.)
