In Art and D&T we will create our own mosaics and use clay to model a Roman-style bust. We will read the myth of Romulus and Remus, then create our own myth. We will learn about the construction of Hadrian’s Wall. In addition to our topic, we will spend the week around Diwali learning about the Sikh religion. In Science we will be learning about gases, liquids and solids. Plus we will have lots of Christmas-related activities! For our Daily Mile, we will be marching like Roman soldiers. In music we will create drum rhythms to help us keep time. We will learn about the military tactics of the Roman Army and create our own Roman shields, like the ones seen here. In Maths, we will study the Roman number system as well as continuing to develop our existing skills. We will use the story ‘Escape from Pompeii’ to develop our reading comprehension and inspire letter writing. We will learn how to put on a Toga and then write instructional text about this.
