Kingfisher Heritage School Monday August 11 Welcome to Third Grade Kingfisher Heritage School Monday August 11

Welcome Parents! Welcome parents and students. List the goals for parent meeting: To help parents understand the work their child will be doing throughout the school year. To explain expectations of third grade. To share information about how parents can support their child’s learning.

You keep this at home to review. Homework Each Monday students will bring home a list of spelling words, vocabulary words, and a story to read and discuss at home. This is the home-school connection for parent to be able to work with their child at home. You keep this at home to review.

Homework Each Tuesday, your child will bring home the reading text book so that they can read the story to you at home. They will also bring home the vocabulary notebook. They must study the words, and HAVE YOU SIGN THE NOTEBOOK. They will be consequences as designated by each teacher if the notebook is not signed, there will also be a test over the story and the assigned vocabulary. Each Friday will be a spelling test. No pretest is given.

Library Books Students may check out library books daily as they need them They should have their library book with them at all times, reading class, math class, at HOME, etc. The more your student reads the better reader they will become.

Math Homework Many nights your student will have math homework. Please check over your child’s work. The work must be returned the next morning. If it is not, they will have to stay in from recess to do the work.

Math Facts Students need to study math facts at home as well as school. You may want to purchase fact cards to practice at home. Starting in December, we will learn multiplication facts. An award trip will take place in the spring.

Testing First year for students to take the state mandated test in Spring. Mandatory Retention possibilities if students does not demonstrate third grade level performance in reading. Benchmark tests: Fall, Winter and Spring. Parents will be informed at the first parent- teacher conference if their student is below grade level Interventions during school hours. Intervention opportunities before school.

Jacket Round-Up First Friday in each month at 2:15 A class will perform. Awards and recognition are given. Monthly Reading Goal achievement. Million Word Reader Math Master Great Expectation Awards

Math Masters To be a Math Master, students must pass 100 addition facts in 5 minutes, then 100 subtraction facts in 5 minutes, then 100 multiplication facts in 5 minutes. To become a Star Math Master, each one must be passed in 4 minutes, etc.

Reading Awards Completion of Monthly Goals: *Monthly classroom parties *Receive charm and recognition at Jacket Round-up 9 weeks recognition Maintaining 80% and 90% on Independent reading tests. Millon Word Reader

Your School day Dismissed to classrooms Schedule Eat Breakfast, Come to Morning Assembly. Do not go to classroom, do not go to locker. 7:30am 7:55am Dismissed to classrooms 8:05 am Tardy bell (3 tardies count as an absence) 11:40pm LUNCH 2:55pm Dismissal: Bus riders, Walkers to cafeteria, and car riders stay with teacher
