Review for District Assessment October 2012

Domain and Range Remember the domain and range all are possible x-values and y-values for a particular graph or function Are the end points closed or open circles?

Find the domain and range and the graphs that follow.

Remember how to transform a function? How do you make a function reflect? How do you make a function shift up or down? How do you make a function shift left or right? How do you make a function stretch or compress?

Write the equation for the following quadratic functions?

Remember your parent functions? linear function quadratic function cubic function square root or radical rational function absolute value function

How do you make a scatter plot?

Make a scatter plot of the following data and make the prediction! Mary is calculating the runtime for movies using the diameter of film reels that can be modeled by a quadratic function. A reel with a diameter of 5 inches has a run time of 5.55. A reel diameter of 7 inches has a runtime of 11.12. A reel with a diameter of 9.25 inches has a runtime of 16.67 and a diameter of 10.5 inches has a runtime of 22.22. Use the model to predict the runtime of a reel of film with a diameter of 15 inches.

Which equations best represents the data? At the Galaxy Dollar Coffee Shop, the size of the beverage determines the price. The table below shows beverage size in ounces and the cost in dollars. 12 oz 16 oz 20 oz 24 oz 1.49 1.59 1.69 1.79

Don’t forget how to write a system of equations or inequalities! At a college bookstore, Carla purchased a math textbook and a novel that cost a total of $54, not including tax. If the price of the math textbook, m, is $8 more than 3 times the price of the novel, n, which system of linear equations could be used to determine the price of each book? A m + n = 8 C m + n = 54 m = 3n + 54 m = 3n + 8 B m + n = 8 D m + n = 54 m = 3n − 54 m = 3n − 8

Luis receives a gift card worth $25 to an online retailer that sells digital music and games. Each song cost $1, and each game costs $2. He wants to buy at least 15 items with this card. Which system of inequalities could be used to determine the number of songs and games Luis could buy. A. B. C. D.

Solving Systems of Equations Graphing- need to be in y= format Matrix- elimination format or matrix Elimination- x and y on the same side Substitution Remember if you have (x,y) answer choices you can always check and see which ordered pairs makes both equations true!

Matrix Remember matrix problems can look like this or they could look like an elimination problem!

Solving Systems of Inequalities Remember dashed or solid lines Shade above or below Solution area is where the two shadings overlap Solutions can not be on a dashed line Use your calculator to check!
