GDPR: special rules for statistics Further processing for statistical purpose possible Data kept longer No information obligation if data received indirectly Special categories of data can be used for statistics No right to erasure if this would render impossible or seriously impair the statistical objectives No right to object if the processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out for reasons of public interest. Limit data subjects’ rights Already in GDPR!

GDPR: special rules for statistics Additional Derogations possible for Statistics: Right of access, Right to rectification, Right to restriction of processing and Right to object Limit data subjects’ rights further These rights may be further restricted by Union or Member State law, but only if the right is likely to render impossible or seriously impair the achievement of the specific statistical purpose and if such a derogation is necessary for the fulfilment of that purpose

The DGs of the NSIs and of Eurostat… … recognized that in almost all Member States procedures have been initiated to enact derogations from the data subjects' rights referred to in some or all of the following Articles of the GDPR: 15 (access), 16 (rectification), 18 (restriction) and 21 (objection)* * DGs informal workshop on the implications of the GDPR in European statistics 8 February 2018, Luxembourg

The WG is invited to: share information on microdata activities at national level, note the publication of the first European public use files and to support their production for further data sets foster national implementation of the recommendations for a harmonised protection of the 2021 census round provide feedback on the use of helpdesk services for the ESS statistical disclosure control tools
