¡Unos Verbos Nuevos! Verbs on fleek

Ver: to see Veo- I see Vemos- we see Ves- you see Veis- ya’ll see Ve- he/she/it sees You formal see Ven- they see/they all see

Whenever you use VER with a PERSON, put an “A’” right before the person. Ex: We see the girls = Nosotros vemos A las chicas. We see the boy. Nosotros vemos Al chico.(a plus el = al)   1.I see the dog. ___________________________________ 2.We see the teacher. __________________________________ 3. E—ie Stem-changing verbs- a verb that changes “e” to “ie” in the stem (middle of the word) Ella/Empezar empez- empiez- Ella empieza

The following verbs are special The following verbs are special. You still have to conjugate them the same way we have been depending on their endings but differently in the middle -Ar, -Er, -Ir cerrar (ie) ……………………………………. …to close empezar (ie) …………………………………. to begin (FOLLOW WITH “a” if you are saying what person starts to do! ) entender (ie) …………………………………. to understand pensar (ie) …………………………………. to think, to plan preferir (ie) …………………………………. to prefer querer (ie) …………………………………. to want  

But NOW you also have to change the spelling of the STEM in some forms: Stem-changing verbs change in every form but NOSOTROS AND VOSOTROS You STILL have to conjugate. These stem-changing verbs are sometimes called boot verbs. Can you see why? No stem change

Cerrar (ie)  Empezar (ie)  Pensar (ie)  Tener (ie)  the “ie” next to the verb means that the E becomes an IE in every form but nosotros and vosotros!

Cerrar = to close (E becomes IE in every form but nosotros)  cierro- I close  cerramos cierras Cerráis  cierra  cierran

Let’s try the AR stem-changers: We close the door. _______________________________ 2.I close my book. ___________________________________  

empezar = start (E becomes IE in every form but nosotros) empezar = start (E becomes IE in every form but nosotros) *** follow this verb with an A if you are saying start an activity: ex: Yo empiezo a comer = I start to eat.  empiezo Empezamos  Empiezas  empezáis  empieza  empiezan

Pensar = to think / plan_ (used with QUE! for that ) pienso  pensamos  piensas  pensáis  piensa  piensan

Let’s do the –ER verbs now. entender (ie) to understand querer (ie) to want Tener (ie) – to have Perder (ie) – to lose

entender = _______________________ There are 3 Es in this verb entender = _______________________ There are 3 Es in this verb! To determine which one to stem-change, 1. look at the ending and 2. stem-change the first E that comes before the ending.
