Loyalists vs. Patriots Who is who in this War????

Loyalists- Who are they? Americans who felt a deep loyalty, ____________, to Great Britain. Felt they were faithful subjects of the king. Shocked that fellow Colonists would want to fight against their home land and British troops.

Why be a Loyalist? Felt Britain protected them from other nations. Trade with Britain opened trade with other countries.

Patriots- Who are they? Americans who believed that the colonies had the right to govern themselves. Also known as the group that joined and supported the rebels. (those people going against the king)

Why be a Patriot? Wanted to control how they were being taxed. Felt that the King of Britain was not listening to their desires, needs.
