Mmmmmmm… Introduction Quotation Analysis

Quote Sandwich Mechanics: Why write with quote sandwiches? Don’t forget to cite the author’s name and page number at the end: (Steinbeck 12). Remember, the period goes after the parentheses.

Quote Sandwich Examples: Where will George and Lenny live on the ranch? George and Lenny’s new home at the ranch in Salinas is a bunkhouse. George’s and Lenny’s bunkhouse is “a long rectangular building” with lots of windows (Steinbeck 17). Introduction Quote Analysis Citation

Quote Sandwich Examples: Where will George and Lenny live on the ranch? There are windows on the outside of the bunkhouse, and “Inside the walls were whitewashed and the floor unpainted” (Steinbeck 17). It seems rough, but a good place to live in depression era California. Introduction Quote Citation Analysis

Using Quote Sandwiches: Use a “quote sandwich” to answer these questions in complete sentences. How many bunks are in the bunkhouse and how many of them are occupied when George and Lenny arrive? Page 17 Where do ranch hands store their belongings? What does George have in his bindle? Page 19

Creating Quote Sandwiches: Write a “quote sandwich” to give details about the personality and/or behavior of George and/or Lennie. After, share it with the class. Be sure to use air quotes.
