Presentation transcript:

What is a project? A project has a well defined objective(s), usually in terms of scope, time and cost, that can be measured at the conclusion of the project (or some point thereafter) to determine project success. A project has a clearly defined beginning and end date. A project is a unique, one-time endeavor.

What is project management? Project management requires making considerable effort to first plan the work by creating a baseline plan to manage the project against. Once the work has been planned, a project management process is utilized to execute the plan. Projects and the organizations the projects are being done for are not static. Project management means controlling changes to the project baseline throughout the project process.

What is project planning? Measurable objective(s) Scope Risk Schedule (WBS, Network Diagrams) Cost (Earned Value) Resources (people, equipment…) Communications Change management Procurement

What is project execution? Executing the plan Status reporting (actual to baseline) Communication!! Team development Manage by exception This list is short, but this is typically between 50% and 80% of the work on a project)

What is project controlling? Performance measurement and reporting Risk assessment and control Scope verification and change control Quality control Schedule control Cost control Project plan updates

What is project closing? Procurement audits Product verification and acceptance Financial closure Lessons learned On to the next project!!
