Grrrrrrr! – Those Fiendish SQA People Most theme questions don’t have the word theme in it (typical eh!) However, take a minute to think before you panic and move on to a less suitable question…

Drama Macbeth

Happy Days  A play with an important theme (such as… blah, blah, blah, ambition or any other theme)

The word theme is often replaced with central concern A play which has as its central concern… blah, blah, blah, ambition or any other concern)

The word issue is often used in place of theme Choose a play with an important issue such as blah, blah, blah, ambition or any other issue) Often there is a word before issue such as human issue/ moral issue/ social issue…

The word message is often used in place of theme A play with an important/powerful… message.

Slightly More Complicated – A question that seems to be about character can also be about theme Choose a play with a character who has to deal with feelings of … blah, blah, blah, ambition or any other feelings) A play which has a character who suffers from a human weakness such as … blah, blah, blah, ambition or any other weakness) A play which has a flawed character A play in which a character has to deal with a problem
