Editing colour using Premiere Pro

There are lots of ways to edit colour in Premiere Pro but using an adjustment layer allows you to apply the same effect to more than one clip easily and safely. With the project panel selected, create a new adjustment layer and drag it onto the timeline.

Drag the adjustment layer over the clips you want to change.

There are a range of effects available to try in Lumeti Presets. These mimic the results of shooting on film.

You can adjust the strength of the effect by altering the opacity of the layer (the adjustment layer needs to be selected first).

Select the colour panel Click on the eyedropper Click on an area of the image that you know should be grey. You can also use the WB selector to help correct colour.

The RGB Curves are very effective The RGB Curves are very effective. You can move the whole curve up or down to make the image lighter and darker. Making the line steeper by clicking on a second point increases contrast.

You can also move individual curves to change the colour balance. In this case, the blue curve has been moved. This makes the image more (or less) yellow because yellow is the opposite of blue.

You can use the same correction tools on an adjustment layer. The same adjustments can be applied to every clip on the timeline and can be easily deleted if you make a mistake.

You can use Look up Tables (LUT) to add extra effects such as film types, camera types and custom tones. These can be found online. The LUTs are applied using the LUT control.
