CHAPTER 3.2                                          PERSONAL IDENTITY AND CHARACTER

WHAT IS GOOD CHARACTER? CHARACTER- IS DISTINCTIVE QUALITIES THAT DESCRIBE HOW A PERSON THINKS, FEELS, AND BEHAVES. A PERSON WITH GOOD CHARACTER DEMONSTRATES CORE ETHICAL VALUES, SUCH AS RESPONSIBILITY, HONESTY, INTEGRITY, AND RESPECT.

TRAITS OF GOOD CHARACTER 1.TRUSTWORTHINESS- YOU WILL DO WHAT YOU SAY YOU WILL DO. 2.RESPECT- YOU USE GOOD MANNERS.                                                                                3. RESPONSIBILITY- DO WHAT YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO DO. THINK BEFORE YOU ACT. 4. FAIRNESS- OPEN MINDED AND YOU LISTEN TO OTHERS. PLAY FAIR. 5. CARING- KIND AND COMPASSIONATE. 6. CITIZENSHIP- OBEYS LAWS AND RULES AND RESPECTS AUTHORITY.

DEVELOPING YOUR CHARACTER CHARACTER IS LEARNED WHEN YOU ARE YOUNG AND THEN DEVELOPED THROUGHOUT YOUR LIFE. 3 STEPS IN DEVELOPING CHARACTER ARE: - STAND UP FOR YOUR BELIEFS. - LEARN FROM PEOPLE THAT DEMONSTRATE GOOD CHARACTER TRAITS. - JOIN VOLUNTEER GROUPS IN SCHOOL OR YOUR COMMUNITY.

DEMONSTRATING CHARACTER BY DEMONSTRATING GOOD CHARACTER, YOU PRACTICE BEHAVIORS THAT ARE POSITIVE FOR YOURSELF AND OTHERS. QUESTION HOW CAN YOU DEMONSTRATE GOOD CHARACTER AT HOME, SCHOOL, AND IN THE COMMUNITY?

POSITIVE ROLE MODELS ROLE MODEL- IS SOMEONE WHOSE SUCCESS OR BEHAVIOR SERVES AS AN EXAMPLE FOR OTHERS. ROLE MODELS INCLUDE: - TEACHERS, COACHES, ATHLETES, RELIGIOUS LEADERS, AND VOLUNTEERS. DO YOU SHOW THE SAME TRAITS THAT YOUR ROLE MODEL DISPLAYS IN YOUR DAILY ACTIONS?

IMPORTANCE OF GOOD CHARACTER -IF YOUR BEHAVIORS REFLECT GOOD CHARACTER, YOU MAY HAVE AN INCREASED FEELING OF SELF-WORTH, SATISFACTION, AND A SENSE OF PURPOSE IN LIFE.
