What is this all about? Are you ready?

To Build a Fire By Jack London Born: January 12, 1876 in San Francisco California Died: November 22, 1916…Beauty Ranch, Sonoma California, possible suicide/overdose London was self taught, learning by reading in the public library in San Francisco, a very special librarian was credited with helping him pick out books that eventually led to his desire to write. He was from a working class family and had to work very hard at a very young age, he saw his writing as a way out of the hard labor. He had many sever illnesses over his lifetime, starting with scurvy when he was in the wilds of the Klondike durig the gold rush. He is believed to have been suffering from severe pain from kidney stones, and was taking morphine. He is believed to have died from complications of the kidney stones and possibly an overdose of Morphine.

What made him interesting? Adventure-Klondike Gold Rush and the Yukon Controversy- Plagiarism Politics-Socialism Klondike Gold Rush 1897- Many stories based on this experience, became severely mal nourished and developed scurvy. His gums became swollen, eventually leading to the loss of his four front teeth. A constant gnawing pain affected his hip and leg muscles, and his face was stricken with marks that would forever remind him of the struggles he faced in the Klondike. It was this experience that led directly to him writing To Build a Fire. Partially because he was famous, and partially because of the way he wrote, he was frequently open to accusations of plagairism. His most famous work, The Call of the Wild was at one time believed to be very similar to My Dogs in the Northland, written by Egerton Young, he admitted to using it as a source and even wrote a letter thanking him…later the author accused him of plagiarism. He had very strong political beliefs, and socialism was a very important part of that. He unsuccessfully tried running for political office a few times, and used the Beauty Ranch as a way of experimenting with his conservation and political ideas.
