Goals and Objectives Goals: After completing the assignment, students explore the history of the Klondike Gold Rush and gain an understanding of Jack London's life experiences. Objectives-I can: use the Internet to locate information about the Klondike Gold Rush. research literary works by Jack London and use them to supplement the anchor text. apply my research of Jack London to better understand why and how he wrote.

Task The following steps will enable you to set off on an Alaskan adventure. Click through the steps to view the pre-selected videos and complete the associated tasks. Then, answer the questions on your task sheet provided. 1. View the video titled Off to the Klondike! The Search for Gold by clicking on the following link. Put on CC and read the subtitles. You Tube video of Klondike Gold Rush 2. Go to the Klondike Gold Rush link provided (National Park Service). Read the information and view the pictures on the page. Klondike Gold Rush Informational Text 3. Click on the following link to read a short biography of Jack London's life. Scroll to the Meet the Author section on page 2. Jack London Short Bio 4. Click on the following link to explore The Yukon, Canada. Retracing the Klondike Gold Rush - The Yukon 5. Click on the following link to read about sled dogs in the Yukon. Sled Dogs - National Geographic 6. Go to the following website address to access a map of the Yukon trails. You will need to (1) identify and label the boundaries of the United States and Canada in black ink, (2) locate and label Seattle, Washington; Skagway, Alaska; and Dawson, Yukon Territory (the town closest to the gold fields) in green ink, (3) trace the "rich man's route" (blue ink) to the Klondike region from Seattle and then the "poor- man's route" (red ink), then answer the corresponding questions on your handout.
