The Problem Header chains under suspended load Employee had to use rebar to reach under Inefficient and exposed employees to hazards Our problem dealt with our strong back and employees working around a suspended load. When the strong back came down the chains would be under a suspended load. Employees were using a piece of bent rebar to pull the chains out as the strongback came down. Once the strong back was resting on the header the employee would hook it up. While this worked it was inefficient and the employees still had to work around a suspended load. Exposing them to a potential hazard.
Our Solution Developed by safety coordinator Miguel Eliminates the suspended load Provides room for employees to work Prevents strong back from resting on header After see the employees struggle with the chains, our safety coordinator came up with the idea to attach legs to the strongback. Once the legs were attached it eliminated the suspended load. It also gave the employees more room to hook the chains up to0 the header. The legs can be moved depending on what we are producing so that they are never in the way.

The tubing we used was actually scrap that had been laying around our shop, however you can get 20 feet of it for about 180$. It took our maintenance guy Orlando about 2 hours to measure, cut and install the legs. These simple support legs
