Operant Conditioning Tip: Think of Positive as adding something Think of Negative as subtracting something

In Operant Conditioning we take a spontaneous voluntary behaviour and try to modify it. We can Reinforce it to increase the behaviour We can Punish it to decrease the behaviour

Positive Reinforcement Karaoke Applause Karaoke all the time A behaviour is increased through the addition of something positive. Create your own example of Positive Reinforcement

Negative Reinforcement Loud traffic disappears Close Window Close Window every day. A behaviour is increased through the removal of something negative Create your own example of Negative Reinforcement

Positive Punishment Yelled at by boss Late for work Not late for work from now on A behaviour is decreased through the addition of something negative Create your own example of Positive Punishment

Negative Punishment No more music at work  Late for work Not late for work from now on A behaviour is decreased through the subtraction of something positive Create your own example of Negative Punishment

Extinguishing We can extinguish behaviors by ignoring them
