(A) Fusion between the septum primum and secundum occurs along the entire zone of overlap. (B) Fusion between the septum primum and secundum is limited to the caudal portion of the zone of overlap (blue arrow) resulting in a pouch that can be accessed from the left atrium (LA) (red arrow).
