Facilities Evaluation LME 501 Dr. Fiehn Carla Hoosier

This is the main entrance to the media center This is the main entrance to the media center. The glass window allows teachers and students to see into the media center. The doors are a double entrance. The TV scrolls the announcements for the school.

A view from the entrance of the media center. Both sides can be seen A view from the entrance of the media center. Both sides can be seen. The lecture lab is to the left, while the computer lab is to the right.

A view of the lecture lab located on the left side of the media center A view of the lecture lab located on the left side of the media center. The collection can be seen, as well as the tables and chairs. The fiction collection is to the left, the nonfiction collection straight ahead and the reference section to the right.

This is the circulation desk This is the circulation desk. New books to the media center are featured on the counter. The computer can be used to check out books and the wooden box houses the book return. The bookshelves in the back have the DVDs available for checkout and serve as a school display. The chalkboard coffee table is a moveable piece of furniture.

A view of the computer lab. There are 32 computers available A view of the computer lab. There are 32 computers available. The doors in the back are the entrance to the college and career center and its’ office. The rooms on the far side are labeled 1-5. The rooms and their contents vary.

This is the entrance to the college and career center located at the back of the computer lab. Students often visit the media center to seek advice here.

The two rooms seen are Room 1 and 2 The two rooms seen are Room 1 and 2. Room 1 has the technology carts and Room 2 is a kitchen. There is a table in here for students to work as well. Both rooms are multipurpose.

This image shows Rooms 3, 4, and 5. Room 5 is located within Room 4 This image shows Rooms 3, 4, and 5. Room 5 is located within Room 4. Neither of these rooms have a window so it makes it difficult for students to use without constant supervision. Room 3 has more teacher supplies, while Room 4 can serve as a multipurpose room.

This is the teacher’s desk for the media center This is the teacher’s desk for the media center. From its’ vantage point at the entrance, all student parts of the media center can be seen.

These are the telephones used in the media center These are the telephones used in the media center. There are two for the whole center; one by the teacher’s desk and one by the circulation desk.

This is one of the Chromebook carts in Room 1 of the media center This is one of the Chromebook carts in Room 1 of the media center. The brown spots on the floor show how the wheels are damaging the flooring.

This is one of the ceiling tiles in the media center that has been repainted by students. Typically the tiles in the media center depict popular novels or literary characters.

These are the ceiling tiles which are being replaced with student work one at a time although it is a slow process. The mold and water stains are easily seen.

For the Future Hopefully in the future the media center can continue to be improved. From the images, the worn carpet can be seen and it would be nice to be able to replace this in the future. Ceiling tile replacement is a slow process, but is a good project for student involvement. I believe the old ones need to be removed immediately to improve the air quality of the media center although many tiles throughout the school have the same appearance. The stationary bookcases and outlets make it difficult to rearrange the media center on a large scale, but I would like to see the media center continue to grow and attract more students each and every day.
