How Do I get Satisfaction?

The Song of the Dissatisfied Oh, that I were Where I would be, Then would I be Where I am not; But where I am There I must be, And where I would be, I cannot.

The ninth and tenth Commandments “ Thou shall not covet your neighbours wife.” “Thou shall not covet your neighbours belongings.” These commandments forbid envy and the desire for more power, status, respect or love (which normally comes with envy). St. Augustine calls envy the diabolical sin because it leads to so many other sins.

The ninth and tenth commandments sum up the other commandments by forbidding the negative attitudes that lead people to break the other commandments. They also remind us that satisfaction and true happiness are only possible when we direct our hearts towards loving God and loving our neighbour as ourselves.

Relationships with others should not be seen as chances for sexual pleasure, personal or material gain or even chances to prove ourselves. We should instead see every relationship as a chance to share the generous love we have gotten from God.

“Just to be is a blessing; just to live is holy” quote from Abraham Joshua Hershel. If we are really grateful for our lives and see our existence as a blessing, we will not feel dissatisfied. We must see ourselves as blessed and celebrate the blessings of others without being jealous.

Philippians 4:11-13 “ I have learned to be content with whatever I have. I know what it is to have little, and know what it is to have plenty. In any and all circumstances, I have learned the secret of being well-fed and of going hungry, of having plenty and of being in need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”
