Presentation transcript:

“Parents can only give good advice or put them on the right paths, but the final forming of a person's character lies in their own hands.” Anne Frank

Don’t Panic! UCAS application is very straightforward. UCAS ‘Subject Browser’ and ‘Course Finder’ are extremely useful Students can add to it as they go along, saving and changing their form. We can access their form at any time A checking tool is built in, so it’s actually quite difficult to make mistakes (We help too!)

CHOICES,CHOICES! Five choices only are available – these cannot be prioritised in any way on the form Only when all five offers are made can students decide on which course they prefer Compare courses on the Unistats website. Students can accept one Unconditional offer only Or they can accept a Firm Offer and an Insurance Offer, before using TRACK to follow their application

How can you help..? Register as a Parent on UCAS.COM. UCAS has a special part of their site dedicated to helping parents. (They know we worry…) It has a Parents’/Idiots’ Guide to UCAS terms. They’ll even send you a very useful Parents’ Guide and Newsletters UCAS will send parents emails, helping you understand the process

Double Check! Check through your son or daughter’s application before sending it to their UCAS tutor. Above all, ensure your son/daughter double checks institution codes and course codes. Read over their Personal Statement with them. Have they remembered everything? Personal statements should stand out.Tutors receive 200 per week!

Personal statement – start early! Personal statements are so important; make sure your son or daughter includes: academic achievements, past and present interests in the chosen subject area knowledge of the subject and enthusiasm to go beyond the syllabus what they enjoy about studying details of their independent study skills

Offers… If your son or daughter fails to reply to their offers by the deadline date, all offers will be automatically declined. Students only reply when ALL 5 offers have been made. Look out for the AS12 Confirmation Letter – youngsters MUST follow instructions to confirm acceptance.

No offers. UCAS Extra provides an additional choice No offers? UCAS Extra provides an additional choice. It runs from Mid February to the end of June on the Course Search section

Still No Offers? Clearing is available from July. Students can view vacancies on the UCAS website, and contact Universities directly. The Track service helps students through this process.
