Presentation transcript:

5 reasons why printmaking is very cool!

1. Most printmaking processes allow the artist to make multiples of the same image. Andy Warhol used images repeatedly but varied the way an image was finished. This made for an interesting new way to do art!

2. There are so many ways to make a print you can really achieve almost any look you want. Woodcuts and Linocuts are usually simplified, clean, sharp images. The bold simplified shapes can be very powerful!

Etching & Engraving allows for interesting line work.

Aquatints allow for variations of light and dark.

Screen prints can be bold and colorful Screen prints can be bold and colorful. The screen printing method allows very detailed images.

Screen printing is often used for posters.

…and T-shirts

Barbra Kruger used it to add controversial statements to appropriated images.

#3 It is a very “hands on process" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EJaQdUSyN0

4. It feels like magic to me when you peel back the paper and reveal what you have printed! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=192OAca_TxM

5. Printmaking lets you do re-dos! Most printmaking artists will print multiple proof before the get the print they want. https://art21.org/watch/extended-play/kiki-smith-printmaking-short/

I can’t wait to see what we will create!
