Important New Directions for UAS: FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018 Reauthorization Process: CODEL/Constituents Congress FAA ‘5 year targets’: Extend Test Range authorizations thru 2023 Allow Test Ranges to receive Federal funding Allow Universities to receive UAS flight development research grants Accelerate Beyond Visual Line of Sight operations (BVLOS) Allow Test Ranges to operate BVLOS with onboard see-and-avoid safety sensors Accelerate Unmanned Traffic Management incorporation

Important New Directions for UAS : FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018 (Continued) Determine local government interest/ideas for managing low-altitude airspace, establish National best policy Define national UAS privacy and civil rights denial policy Enhance UAS use in Public Safety while enforcing No-Drone Zones Figure out how to pay FAA’s costs for UAS Codify Educational UAS use policy Require FAA “Airspace Knowledge Test” of everyone flying UAS
