Metacognition Feedback Year 3, 27.04.18 Explain to the children that in this lesson they will be learning what useful feedback is and how feedback can help them to get better at things. Explain that feedback is when someone tells you what is good about something you have done and ways that it can be improved.

Link to previous learning in metacognition - to be a successful learner and to make progress… What do you think someone with a growth mindset does when they receive feedback? What about someone with a fixed mindset?

Ask children to share with their partner “How would you feel if your teacher said these things to you? What would your response be?” How would you feel if your teacher said these things to you? What would your response be?”

Can you think of a time you have had feedback from your teacher Can you think of a time you have had feedback from your teacher? What was it? How did you feel?

Compliment or feedback? Your drawing of a house is lovely. The picture of the house is drawn neatly. It could be improved further if you added some windows. Clarify with children the difference between a compliment and feedback.

When might people get feedback? (Rally Robin) Why is feedback so important? We need it throughout life.

Timed Parnter Talk Was his feedback honest? Was it useful? What would you have said to that person? Watch a clip you have selected from Simon Cowell, or a similar judge, giving feedback. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9oxSo82esQ)

Q. What would happen if a judge just gave the person compliments, and didn’t give them any honest feedback? Clarify with the children that feedback is essential in order for us to grow and develop, and that’s why it’s important that we learn how to take on board feedback, use it, and seek it out

Look, nod, don’t argue Think, restate, thank Decide Receiving feedback Talk about emotions.

Remember! Feedback is just information that is helping me grow.
