Weight or Mass Differs on the Moon?

Defining Weight Weight is the amount of gravitational pull, force, on an object. If this force is not balanced, then an acceleration is produced. This acceleration is directed toward the center of the planet.

Example 1 Find the weight of 5.00 kg

Example 2 Find the weight of 12.0 slugs.

Mass Versus Wieght Mass of an object remains the same, but weight varies according to gravitational pull.

Example 3 Find the weight of a 75.0 kg astronaut on the moon, where g = 1.63 m/s2.

Mass Versus Volume Volume of an object is the amount of space an object occupies. Recall, units include cm3, ft3, and L Mass is the amount of inertia or the amount of matter it contains.
