The 9 steps he uses in his design process Building with Bob The 9 steps he uses in his design process
Identify the Problem problem State the problem (what you are designing) in your own words State limiting criteria (use of material, time etc.) List areas of the problem in need of further research problem state limiting criteria (use of material, time etc.)
Research Using consistent formatting list questions and the researched answers in your own words List a variety of sources for this research Make sure all research is paraphrased
Brainstorming Develop as many solutions to your problem as possible make sure each idea is well developed and easily understood incorporate sketches, diagrams or other visuals to represent these ideas DO NOT SELECT YOUR IDEA HERE!
Resources List resources (money, material, time etc.) needed for each of your ideas Eliminate any inadequate brainstormed ideas due to unavailable resources
Evaluation Identify important criteria to consider (simplicity, cost, look, etc.) Evaluate all your ideas against the criteria Identify the most appropriate design after evaluations
Prototyping Depict the best solution using a drawing, model, prototype, presentation or other visual aid Describe how the prototype was made List its key characteristics (e.g. mass, size, etc.)
Re-Evaluate Assess how well the design meets the requirements Describe how well it performed during testing Describe any modifications that you made based on the results of testing.
Feedback and Redesign Obtain and record meaningful feedback from several of individuals Summarize the recommendations of each reviewer Accept or reject the changes based on logical reasoning
Final Product Submit the final product meeting all Design Criteria Supply all information about the design to the customer (e.g. dimensions, mass, ect.) Reflection on how well or poorly the product performed
Other Design Brief Notes Include a Title Page, Table of Contents Consistent format USE Tables USE Bullets
The age old question is answered… YES WE CAN!
