Presentation transcript:

Defining Motion Terms for analyzing motion Position (p) – the location of an object relative to the origin on a coordinate system The origin – where you set your zero position, where you start to measure from your meter stick The position of an object is its distance and direction from the origin

Position Examples Where is the object?

How far does it move?

Displacement Displacement (∆p) – an object’s change in position from its initial position (pi) to its final position (pf) How far and what direction the object is from its starting position Equation: displacement = (final position) – (initial position) Can be backwards, forwards, positive, or negative

How far is it from its starting point?

Fill in the blanks with your information!
