Information and registrations http://www.iihl.org/idlcourse/ 5th ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL DISASTER LAW COURSE International Institute of Humanitarian Law Sanremo, Italy / 18th – 22nd June 2018 Background Over the last ten years, non-conflict disasters have killed nearly a million people and affected 1.8 billion world-wide. They are among the largest threats to human security and development facing the world today. Is international law stepping up? This one-of-a-kind course will provide participants with a comprehensive overview of existing international law and key regulatory issues related to the prevention and management of natural and man-made disasters. Through a mixture of lectures, practical exercises and group work, it will provide a dynamic and tailored learning environment. Faculty Speakers will include Dr. Eduardo Valencia-Ospina (Member of the International Law Commission, Former Special Rapporteur on the Protection of Persons in the Event of Disasters) along with other distinguished speakers from academia and key international organizations such as the IFRC, WHO, IOM. Target audience The course is designed for graduate and post-graduate students (in subjects such as law, humanitarian or development studies, international relations) as well as disaster management and humanitarian practitioners from government, international and regional organizations, NGOs, and Red Cross/Red Crescent National Societies.
