Setting God’s People Free Everyday Faith Dr Nick Shepherd Programme Director for Setting God’s People Free Evangelism and Discipleship Team, The Archbishops’ Council James – hand over to Nick Shepherd– bio is in the programme

What is Setting God’s People Free? Working together to enable the whole people of God to live out the Good News of Jesus confidently in all of life, Sunday to Saturday.

…we have the privilege and opportunity to serve Christ in every task we do, in every encounter we have, and every place we find ourselves.. …we have the privilege and opportunity to serve Christ in every task we do, in every encounter we have, and every place we find ourselves – in the factory as well as the sanctuary, in the primary school as well as in the Sunday school, in the team meeting as well as in the prayer meeting.

Set free to fulfil our calling as the Church and as people of the Kingdom Community representation (Projects & outreach) Faith in Everyday life Kingdom influence Church roles (Leadership & lay ministry) SGPF looks beyond and outside Church structures to the whole people of God at work in communities and wider society - not to 'fixing' the institutional Church. SGPF challenges a culture that over-emphasises a distinction between sacred and secular to a fuller vision of calling within the all-encompassing scope of the Gospel – not to limit vocation to church based roles. SGPF seeks to affirm and enable the complementary roles and vocations of clergy and of lay people, grounded in our common baptism - not to blur or undermine these distinctions. SGPF proposes imaginative steps to nourish, illuminate and connect what is working already in and through parishes and communities of faith - not to institute a top-down approach Shift 1: Equipping the whole people of God to follow Jesus confidently in every sphere of life Shift 2: Enriching mutual recognition and support between lay and ordained followers

…What is needed, first and foremost, is not a programme but a change in culture…

Enhancing our gathered worship to better sustain everyday discipleship Equipping each other for Mon-Sat lives in home, work & community Listening to lay voices and experience of being Christian Sharing a biblical vision for the calling and vocation of all to serve God’s mission levers for change
