A Scholar Sums It Up Best “Programs like BSP address issues about being trained in the discipline of scientific research and not in the discipline of learning science… First, by promoting a scholarly approach to teaching, it infuses the act with the language of research that PhDs are comfortable with. This makes the approach to learning about teaching less intimidating... Second, the immersive format is a key ingredient because it focuses the attention and forces participants to delve into the topic. Third, programs like BSP offer community-building opportunities, which is important to catalyze true transformation in the teaching of science in higher education. Finally, BSP programs provide a very large impact on the quality of science standards in our country because these Biological Scholars are all active educators who will implement these better pedagogical practices in their classrooms.” ~Survey respondent
