SUBJECT (Week 13) 2nd Sem Date: 3 to 7 April 2017 Room 111 – W. Martin MATH 6A – PER 2 & 5 SCIENCE/HEALTH – PER 4 & 6 B-Read Math Triumphs Math Intervention Period 3 DO NOW ACTIVITY Use your flash cards to test your partner on Academic Vocabulary being used in this math lesson. Make the Story Problem organizer and highlight a problem on Cornell Notes to share with the class. Use flash cards to test your partner on Academic Vocabulary that you are presently using in this Health lesson. Make flash cards that show the academic vocabulary in this lesson. Make sure you have the word on one side and the definition on the other side of the card. LANGUAGE OBJECTIVE SWBAT find the volume of a right rectangular prism with edge lengths in the context of solving real world and mathematical problems using the academic vocabulary: one, two, three-dimensions, volume, rectangular prism, length, area, vertex, base, face. SWBAT define define peer pressure and describe nine effective peer pressure refusal strategies using the academic strategy word vocabulary: steer clear, say no, walk away, ignore, broken record, a better idea, make an excuse, reverse the pressure. Students will be able to represent probabilities as ratios, proportions, decimals between 0 and 1 using the academic vocabulary: probability, ratio, outcome, and event. STANDARDS By the end of the week, students will be able to solve the volume of a rectangular prism, calculate its surface area and calculate percent mentally. By the end of the week, students will be able to discuss why it is important to use refusal strategies and stand by their decisions to remain drug free. BEOTW, students will demonstrate and understanding of rates and unit cost and perform simple problems involving the mathematical concepts. ESSENTIAL QUESTION Why is it important to know how to calculate the volume of things in the real world? Why is it important to understand how to use peer pressure refusal strategies? Why is it important to be able to predict an outcome of an event? HOMEWORK CPM Section 9.1.1 to 9.2.2, pages 433 to 450, problems 9-1 to 9-48. Do the Brain Pop activity on Area of Polygons and turn in to teacher. Define Academic Words on 3 x 5 cards. Do Lesson 3, Peer Pressure Strategies in TGFD. Complete the following activities: Trouble Peer Pressure Strategies Strategy Squares Peer Pressure Practices Complete Lesson 1-3 Probability as a Ration in workbook 3A, problems 1 to 40, pages 21 to 25. Copy the academic words for Week 13 and define them on a card and test your partner each day. TEST Your test will be the Brain Pop test on Area of Polygons. Ten questions. Your test will be Lesson 3, “Peer Pressure Strategies”. There are 10 questions on the test. Your test will be Chapter 1 Standards Practice, problems 1 to 12, pages 30 to 31. SPECIAL EVENTS Family Math and Science Night is on 6 April, in the cafeteria from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. Extra credit: Perform the play “Script 1 or Script 2” using one of the nine peer pressure strategies. SBAC Math Tests begin on May 9th, Tuesday. Do the SBAC practice tests on-line using SBAC Portal.
