What a crazy week with weather! Website calendar for events. Mrs. Vaglia’s Adventuring 3rd Grade Class November 19, 2018 What a crazy week with weather! Math Multiple strategies is the name of the game. We discourage using 10’s and 1s as their go to strategy because the numbers they are working with are getting bigger. It is just not reasonable to draw it out. Talk to your child about open number lines, decomposing numbers, partial sums, and regrouping. Knowing the vocababulary is important. Hard to believe over the past week, we were in school only two days! If nothing else, it was good practice to get back up plans in place if you need to work and your child is off. I emailed parents suggested activities to do to stay current with what we are learning in class. It was 100% optional. I want you to have an option if you choose and have the chance to work with your child. . Social Studies Reading At this writing, I do not know how our “trade” was. I am guessing successful! We are learning about producers, goods, services, natural, human, and capital resources. Do you know the difference? We are doing STAR testing every two weeks. This is a fast check of comprehension and decoding. Half the class improved and half did worse. After analyzing the data, Mrs. Bondeson and I noticed some are rushing and not looking at details, going back into the text to find answers, looking at only the first letter of a word or dropping word endings. This is consistent in reading group and Readworks.org. Reading with your child, slow them down and have them look & THINK! Website calendar for events. Happy Thanksgiving! vagliaek@staffordschools.net
