Texas 2x2 Reading List

The 2x2 Reading List is a product of The Children's Round Table, a unit of the Texas Library Association. The Texas Library Association sponsors the 2x2 Reading List solely to encourage free voluntary reading.

: and Other Unlikely Additions does not always equal 2 in this playful approach to addition requiring readers to think outside the box.

A Balloon for Isabel Should porcupines ever receive balloons? Well, maybe, if its their graduation day! Join Isabel as she tries to convince her teacher that she and Walter, both porcupines, should receive balloons on their big day – just like all the other children.

A Beach Tail When his father tells him not to leave the lion he is drawing on the beach, a little boy starts making a very, very long tail – and a trail to follow back.

Cat the Cat Who is That? Mo Willems is back with a new cast of characters. In this book an exuberant cat introduces readers to her friends. And a cameo appearance by a certain pigeon, will keep readers amused.

Chalk Sunshine, butterflies, and dinosaurs! Oh my! One rainy day three children head to the park and find a bag of magical chalk. As they begin to draw, their pictures come to life! In this wordless drama, the saying Be careful what you wish for takes on new meaning!

Chicken Big Is it an elephant? An umbrella? A squirrel? The chickens are as brainless as ever in this quirky revision of Chicken Little. A unique twist on the classic, this book will have you laughing out loud and cheering for the unlikely hero!

Dancing Feet Tippity! Thumpity! Slappity! Stompity! This easy-to-read, rhyming text depicts different animals dancing and will have little ones asking for you to read it again and again.

Disappearing Desmond Desmond, a shy cat, likes to blend in with his surroundings. He is so skilled at disappearing that sometimes even his teacher cannot find him. But, when he meets Gloria, a new student at school, his attitude slowly changes.

In the Wild This book of poetry describes different wild animals. The woodcut and watercolor illustrations bring the animals to life.

Lets Save the Animals: A Flip-the-Flap Book Readers are introduced to ten endangered animals and how they can help protect them through large, colorful illustrations and flip-the- flap pages.

Ling & Ting: Not Exactly the Same Are identical twins exactly the same? People seem to think so, but Ling and Ting, prove to be different time after time.

LMNO Peas A wonderful new alphabet book! Busy little peas introduce their favorite occupations from astronaut to zoologist.

One Pups Up Rhyming text counts off ten puppies as they awaken one by one, chase and bounce around the house, eat kibble and get washed, then fall back to sleep.

Pocketful of Posies: A Treasury of Nursery Rhymes A collection of sixty-four traditional nursery rhymes with illustrations made of cloth and fabric.

Rubia and the Three Osos A new twist on a classic tale mixing English and Spanish along with a surprise ending.

Say Hello! Hola! Bonjour! Jambo! Shalom! How many ways can you say hello? A little girl greets people in her neighborhood in many different languages.

Shark vs. Train Who is best, shark or train? A shark and a train compete in a series of contests on a seesaw, in hot air balloons,, bowling, shooting baskets, playing hide-and- seek, and more.

Swim! Lerch, the goldfish wants a friend, which is difficult since hes the only fish in his tank! After trying to befriend some unreceptive – and inanimate – objects, he finally succeeds in finding a friend.

Tuck Me In! Its time for bed. Who needs to be tucked in? Readers will help tuck in baby animals at bedtime using pages with flaps to serve as blankets.

Who Said Coo? Each time Lulu the pig settles sleepily into her bed, she is awakened by Pigeon and Owl, two mischievous friends who make noises, trying to keep her from sleeping. Will Lulu ever get to sleep?
