Compound Sentences: FANBOYS Two independent clauses (complete sentences) combined by a conjunction.

FOR John thought he had the job, for his father was the boss.

AND I like pizza, and I like ice cream.

NOR I am not good at skateboarding, nor am I good at baseball.

BUT I tried to go to the football game, but I had too much homework.

OR I can play on the computer, or I can go to my friend’s house.

YET John plays basketball well, yet his favorite sport is football.

SO My mother told me to clean my room, so I cannot come over to your house.

Semicolon A semicolon can be used in place of a conjunction to combine two complete sentences: I like school; Ms. Torrence’s class is the best.
