Objectives After this presentation you should know: Where to look for information about the third and fourth year clerkships

Phase 2 Third year

Objectives After this clerkship you should be able to: Collect a hypothesis driven history and physical Form an assessment statement Organize a problem list Formulate a differential diagnosis and defend Present in an organized manner Gain knowledge in common internal medicine problems Communicate, educate and advocate effectively with patients and health care team Display professional behavior Demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning, EBM Record emotional reactions

Gain knowledge in very basic internal medicine problems (Clerkship sheet) Subject Lecture Quiz topic Heavy Clinical Exposure Chest pain/cardiac physical exam x Shortness of breath/pulmonary physical exam Abdominal pain/liver tests/abdominal and cirrhosis pe Renal failure Diabetes management Acid base Electrolyte abnormalities Hypo/hypertension Fever/cbc/atb Altered mental status Palliative care

Overall Clerkship View(or its not complicated) Wards (7 weeks)* Palliative(1 weeks)* Attend scheduled activities* Complete Clerkship Task List/Passport If you are not sure what you should be doing check with your team and your schedule check with one of us!!!!!!!

Monday Tuesday Wedn Thursda Friday Sat Sun VA On-service Day off/SEE Student will spend 4 weeks on inpatient VA/4 weeks inpatient UNM Palliative They will be pulled off 1 week either VA or UNM for palliative care—starting on Wednesday Otherwise 1 day off per week except last week at each location Students will get last 3 weekdays off at each location UNM Note no change in one day off per week, Tuesday afternoon off, Thursday afternoon off (not if day call/on call) Shelf and end 16 DAYS OFF TOTAL!!!!

Other interesting facts Students should be following 3-5 patients Passport Histories LCME patient types, procedures and clinical skills Let me know if you’d like to know more? Days off 1 day off per week/80 hours work week Tuesday after their lecture Thursday afternoon unless the team is on call/day call 2-3 continuity clinics Students see their evaluations although removing names

Developmental levels: Reporter- “What is happening?” Interpreter- “Why is it happening?” Manager- “What next?” Educator- “Where are the knowledge gaps?”
